Asparagus Season Begins…

April 5th, 2011

We’ve cut our first crop of asparagus for the year, so from now until the 21st of June you can get freshly cut English Asparagus at Dovecote Farm and when the season gets more productive towards the end of April you will see it on our specials board in The Buttery

It’s back! Pie of the day will be returning to our menu soon!

January 21st, 2011

We’ve recently found a fantastic pie supplier. Pieminister run two Pie & Mash shops in Bristol and can’t stop winning awards for their pies (in fact everyone of their pies has won some sort of award since they started in 2004).  They add a quirky and exciting spin across their whole brand, from the unique pie fillings to the playful names of each flavour they produce.  Pieminister guarantee to source local, free range produce so you know if you pop in to The Buttery for a pie that the meat is of the highest quality.

Their dedication to quality produce and ethical farming practices is recognised by the Good Egg award received at the Compassion for World Farming Awards 2010.

It is these very reasons why we have chosen to stock Pieminster Pies and put Pie of the Day back on our menu, so come along and try a pie!

Looking ahead to the new growing season

January 20th, 2011

At Dovecote Farm we’ve been growing asparagus for many years.  The “official” season for English asparagus runs from 24th April to 21st June, although we can never guarantee this thanks to our variable British climate.  All the asparagus on the farm is hand cut by our staff and goes on sale in our farm shop on the same day.  You couldn’t get fresher produce than that!Red currants growing at Dovecote Farm

Usually, the strawberry season starts in late May and we now grow all our strawberries on tressle “table tops” for ease of picking.  We use several different varieties of strawberry to give as long a picking season as possible.  The rest of our soft fruit crops - gooseberries, raspberries, red currants, black currants and blackberries all follow during June, July and August.

We’re looking you informed about the availability of our soft fruits during season, so be sure to check our blog regularly.  And don’t forget, you can also visit the Dovecote Buttery for a cup of tea or a full lunch.  Here’s hoping for some fine summer weather in 2011 !
